The Federal courts describe the rule of law as “a principle under which all persons, institutions, and entities are accountable to laws that are publicly promulgated, equally enforced, independently adjudicated, and consistent with international human rights principles.” For over two centuries, leaders in the United States have emphasized the importance of the rule of law. Recent developments highlight the escalating threats to the rule of law and democracy, however, so the nation faces a clear choice about the way forward.
Federal and State elections will be held on November 5, 2024, and early voting is already well underway in many parts of the country. Those elections could have a dramatic impact, with reverberations for decades. The orientation of the courts, including the United States Supreme Court, of legislative bodies like Congress, and of law enforcement agencies such as the United States Department of Labor, the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Trade Commission, and the United States Department of Justice could change dramatically with the outcome of the election. It is imperative that people vote. So many have sacrificed so much for that fundamental right. Honor the legacy and vote; everyone's future depends on it.
