Among other extreme actions, the new regime has deployed or sought to deploy soldiers in multiple cities and States around the country over the objections of the people and political leadership there. Tellingly, the majority of people living in those cities and States did not support the current President in the last election and, moreover, are led by people of color and/or women. In addition, the current President recently replaced the existing United States Attorney who refused to prosecute those who the current President describes as “political enemies.” The replacement United States Attorney – who had been serving as the President’s personal attorney – has no prior prosecutorial experience. Almost immediately after being installed as the new United States Attorney, she quickly pursued indictments against the President’s “political enemies” being targeted now. The current Federal administration also has expanded the use of masked and heavily armed Federal agents who, among other actions, have broken into people’s homes in the middle of the night, grabbed children from their beds, and detained many – including over 100 United States citizens – without charge while inflicting physical or psychological harm.
In response, numerous Federal courts – including those with judges appointed by the current President – have imposed injunctions or otherwise ordered the new regime to stop engaging in an array of illegal activities. In addition, higher education institutions – including the current President’s alma mater – have refused to submit to the new regime’s loyalty oath requirement, and thousands of nonprofit organizations have joined hundreds of educational institutions to oppose the Federal Administration’s intensifying attempts to restrict the freedom of thought and expression and other vital civil rights and civil liberties. Mainstream media companies and even those identified as staunchly supportive of the new regime – including the former employer of the Secretary of Defense – have rejected the Federal Administration’s demand that they report on national security and other matters only in ways approved by the new regime.
Most significantly, the largest political demonstration in the nation’s history happened on October 17, 2025. In small towns and big cities around the country at nearly 3,000 events in the 50 States, approximately 7 million people came together to stand up and speak out against the abuses of power and other violations of constitutional protections, civil liberties, and civil rights. This nationwide protest expands on the actions against the new regime that occurred on the following dates:
- on April 5, 2025, which involved 3 million people in all 50 States;
- on May 1, 2025, which also celebrated International Workers Day in hundreds of locations in all 50 States;
- on June 14, 2025, which involved 5 million people in all 50 States during the current President’s poorly attended military parade on the President’s birthday;
- on September 1, 2025, which also celebrated Labor Day in hundreds of locations in all 50 States; and
- on September 17, 2025, which also celebrated Constitution Day in all 50 States.
In sum, legal, educational, nonprofit, and media institutions along with the general public are insisting with increasing determination that the new regime ends the attack against civil rights, civil liberties, and constitutional protections and begins to govern in the public interest.
